Seleste deLaney Blog Tour

Pen Holloway’s done with men—in real life. Guys in game are so much less drama. But when her partner from Heroes of Fallen Gods invites her to the convention of the year, she panics. What if he’s another jerk? What if he’s not?

Cal Burrows is living his dream of being a spy. One of TRAIT’s misfit spies, but still a spy. It’s the perfect job… until an arms dealer with a taste for blood invades his not-so-secret geek haven. All Cal wanted from ConDamned was to meet his on-line girl. Now, with the threat of mass murder looming, he’s forced to choose between keeping his mission a secret and protecting the girl of his dreams.

Despite their attraction, Pen can’t help but suspect Cal’s hiding something. She also can’t shake the feeling he’s not as much of a stranger as he seems.

Today we have as our guest the wonderful author Seleste deLaney to talk about her latest release, Gaming for Keeps, and she does not come empty handed. She’s brought backup … her main characters from the book, Pen Holloway and Cal Burrows are with her! I had a great time reading the book so it’s a pleasure having you all here. I can’t wait to start the interview.

The first question is for Seleste, and it’s one I wanted to ask since I read the plot: Seleste, what gave you the idea of mixing gaming with the spy world? Did you know it would work so well together from the start?

I love spy stories. LOVE. I was a major Alias freak, even when it kind of went off the deep end. And then there was Chuck—oh how I loved that show. Human Target, The Finder (okay, he wasn’t really a spy, but he was quirky as hell). James Bond, Jason Bourne, Aaron Cross… the list could go on and on. But I found the idea of a straight romantic suspense daunting, so I shelved that love for a long time. Then the call for the Geek Collection came out, and I knew I wanted to do something related to gaming (and include my old EQ guild in it—Shout out to the Wallers! <3 ). So I started with the gaming and then realized I didn’t want this to be just standard boy-meet-girl fare. My guildies were awesome, fun, ridiculous people and I wanted to show that beyond the confines of a game. Somehow that got me thinking about all those shows I loved and the geeky characters in them, and I was sold. It just became an issue of making my super-secret-spy-agency something a little different. I hope I succeeded 😉

The second question is for Cal: Tell us about what happens when you go to your “world of madness and violence and blood”? When it’s just you and your targets? What’s it like in your head in those moments?

Wow. You like to go right for the hot buttons, don’t you? Basically imagine being in your body but it moving like a machine that you can’t really control. Your mission is to take out the opposition by whatever means necessary. It’s a loss of conscious thought, a loss of conscience—or at least it was before Marron started working with me. I was slightly more aware after our training sessions. And Pen… well, you know what happened there. She’s the light at the end of a very dark tunnel for me.

Now, for Pen: Do you regret meeting Lohonas in person and discovering he was a spy? That your decision to meet him took you into a dangerous situation and you were close to be killed?

First… *blows kisses to Cal*  Okay, now that that’s out of the way… Are you kidding me?  I’d love to say that danger’s my middle name, but that’d be a lie. As for meeting Lohonas and being yanked into his world? A little nervousness from time to time, but no regrets. Ever.

Another one for Seleste: How much time do you need for your research? Will you play again now that the book is finished, or will gaming for you end now?

That depends a lot on what I’m researching. I used to play Everquest like it was as essential to my life as air, so the gaming research consisted of re-installing the basic version of the game and remembering how chat worked LOL. I have a couple go-to-guys for gun stuff, so the research there basically consists of me sending an email and praying I don’t sound like an idiot (and that they aren’t out on maneuvers or something and can actually get back to me 😛 Same with computer stuff. I have a couple people who are far more knowledgeable than I (which means they not only know what that doohickey does, they also know the proper name for it). One of the research bits I got to do for this book was watching Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (on orders from my editor). Considering how much I adore Jeremy Renner, it was research I was more than happy to dive head first into. There were other bits and pieces, some that took longer than others. And fortunately, there were certain things that I had experience with and didn’t have to research very much J

For Cal: What’s the memory of Pen you like most and what are your plans for the future?

When she kissed me the first time. I should have recognized her in that instant, but like a fool, I’d been focused on the moment instead of the bigger picture. But the way she just let go of everything…it’s a way I think a lot of people (me included) wish we could live all the time. In the future I plan to not die a, how did she put it, “stupid, pointless death that would leave her to plunge into danger all alone in an effort to re-connect with me.” Needless to say, I told her to stop reading the book she was working on at the time. I still plan to stay alive to spend my life with her, but damn that’s a lot to shove on a guy’s shoulders when he’s still trying to get a handle on his little breaks with reality.

For Pen: What kiss of Cal’s do you keep closest to your heart? Where and when did it occur and what did it make you feel?

The first kiss after all the secrets were gone. That happened in his hotel room after he saved the world 😉 As for how it made me feel… Like my world had turned upside down and inside out, like time had ceased to have meaning, and like that new reality was more beautiful than anything I’d ever read about or imagined. Then the gas wore off. *ducks* Kidding!

The last question is for Seleste: Will there be another book of this type? And what can you share with us about your plans for the future?

I have another book featuring TRAIT in the works, as well as plans for several more. I just need the people in charge to want more as much as I do! 😉 As for coming soon… I have the first of my books for Entangled’s Brazen line (Seducing the Enemy) coming this fall. And the second book in my Blood Kissed urban fantasy series with Mundania (Kiss of Life) coming before the end of the year too. Beyond that it depends on my ability to get things done and schedules lining up. Up next on my writing agenda is the third book in the Badlands steampunk romance series with Carina (book 3 doesn’t have a title yet…sorry)

Thanks for coming; I am thrilled I had the opportunity of asking the questions I desired.

Two series coming soon from Entangled Publishing!

My steampunk romance series is from Carina Press: BADLANDS and CLOCKWORK MAFIA (coming April 2013).

The Blood Kissed novels (KISS OF DEATH and, coming soon, KISS OF LIFE) are available from Mundania Press.

The short stories that begin the Blood Kissed series (OF COURSE I TRY and THE GHOST OF VAMPIRE PRESENT) are available at Decadent Publishing.

My short stories YES,ALANA, THERE IS A SANTA CLAUS; MAKING THE NAUGHTY LIST; and A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS are part of Evernight Publishing’s holiday anthologies, in addition, Evernight is the home of the Cupid’s Conquests multi-author, shared world series. (GUNSHY–book 1, and LOVE & OTHER INDOOR SPORTS–book 4)

Also writes young adult fiction as Julie Particka.

Thank you so much Tash, and all the wonderful people of Confessions of Romaholics for hosting me here today! They’ve graciously agreed to allow me to introduce you to Kenric St. James, master of the Enclave. I’m Jessica Lee, author of Undying Destiny, a novel of the Enclave. This interview is a rare opportunity to go behind the veil of the man, or should I say male, at the heart of the Enclave. Mr. St. James is normally a very private individual, since is very existence relies on the utmost discretion and secrecy. But since I’ve already captured his and Emily’s story and couldn’t resist sharing their love with the rest of the world, he’s agreed to give me a few more minutes of his time. Kenric said he might as well make sure I get the facts straight.

First, here’s an introduction to Undying Destiny where we meet Kenric St. James and Emily Ross:

Kenric St. James is out for revenge. Over 300 years ago, an ancient female vampire turned him against his will and killed the woman he loved. He’s spent more than a century building an Enclave of warrior vampires who have sworn to defend humanity against his evil sire and her minions. But when Kenric finds a woman he finally burns to claim as his own again, Kenric knows loving her means giving his sire another target.

Emily Ross just wanted a fresh start. She’s a survivor, coming off the tail end of an abusive relationship, and craves time alone to learn who she is and to save the home that holds her heart. The last thing she needed was a controlling, alpha male calling all the shots.

Meeting Kenric might just have changed her mind, though. He is wrong for her in all the right ways. But in order to keep her heart from breaking, he first has to keep the hordes of evil vamps from stealing her very breath.

  1. Kenric, thank you so much for agreeing to a few questions so your readers can get to know you a little better. In your own words, can you tell me a little about yourself:

Don’t you think you’ve already done a bang-up job of telling the world all my dirty little secrets, Jessica? But for those who don’t know yet—I’m a vampire, an over 300 year old master vampire to be exact. That means I’m stronger, mentally and physically than the typical male vampire. I can shift into more than one alternate form and have various other…abilities. Those I’d prefer not to reveal to the rest of world on the internet, if you don’t mind. It’s best to try and keep some things a bit of a surprise in my particular field of work.

  1. What are your hobbies?

Hobbies…?  Revenge

  1. Kind of morbid, don’t you think? That’s what you do for fun?

It’s all I’ve known for the past 300 years. I wake. I eat. I kill. The rest of my time is spent planning for the day I will enact my revenge on the female who stole my humanity and then killed the woman I loved. Who has time for anything else?

  1. Would you tell us about your job and how did you come to do that?

Those of our kind who cannot control their hunger and kill while feeding risk addiction to Death Euphoria. DE drives them insane with blood lust. Thus they become a threat to humanity. Over a hundred years ago, I began forming a team of like-minded vampires with a conscious and a willingness to defend our city against that threat. We call ourselves the Enclave.

  1. Do you have an enemy or nemesis?

Oh yes… Marguerite Devonshire—my sire

  1. What is the biggest challenge you face in the story?

Balancing my need for revenge with my overwhelming desire for the one woman who has awakened my heart.

  1. What is the one event that you feel has helped to shape your personality?

That I would say was an event from a long, long time ago…yet the image in my mind is as clear as the afternoon it occurred. The moment when my father killed my mother. Her only crime…? Trying to save me.

  1. What is your earliest memory from your childhood?

The sting from the backside of my father’s hand

  1. Are you involved in a romance?

*laughs* You could say that.

  1. Favorite indulgence?

Whatever pleases my Emily. *smiles*

  1. Do you have any pets?

Hmm… I wonder if Matthew would be offended if I claimed him as such? *grin*

  1. What is the one thing you want the most in the whole world?

Easy one. To see Marguerite’s reign of terror come to a screaming end.

  1. If you could say one thing to your readers, what would it be?

Never take one morning in the sun for granted. Live and love each day to the fullest. Because you never know what’s waiting for you around that next corner…

  1. If you could say one thing to your author, what would it be?

Go easy on Emily, Jessica, she’s no delicate flower, but my heroine has been through a lot and she doesn’t need you digging up all those memories.

Noted, Mr. St. James. But I can’t make any promises. *smile*

Thank for your patience with all my questions, and I appreciate your frank honesty. But I expected nothing less from the master of the Enclave. I knew if you agreed, I would get the truth. You live your life by a strong code of ethics, and I respect that. Hence a large part of the reason why you fascinate me, and I had to tell your story.

And I’d like to thank you, the reader for taking the time to stop by and learn a little more about Kenric St. James and Undying Destiny.

Be careful in the dark. You never know what might be waiting for you there.

Let me start off by introducing myself!! I’m Christine Warner and my latest contemporary romance—Bachelor’s Special—recently released with the Indulgence line at Entangled Publishing.

I’m excited to be here and I know the two guests I brought along are just as excited. Let me introduce you to Chet Castle and Jill Adgate from Bachelor’s Special.

“Hi everyone,” Chet and Jill say in unison.

“We’re excited about the interview, but have a little surprise for Christine.” Jill grins sheepishly as she takes a clear glass bowl filled with folded pieces of paper from Chet’s grasp.

“Uh-oh, should I be nervous?” I ask.

“No need to be nervous. We’re actually going to make your job easy today. Since you did all the hard work of sharing our story, we thought we’d let you sit back with a cool glass of tea while we interview each other,” Chet says as he leads me to a comfy looking recliner. As soon as my seat tilts back and my feet are raised, he hands me a frosted tumbler filled with tea. I can smell my favorite flavor right away and I smile. Raspberry.

“Mmm, I can get used to this. You’re both going to spoil me.” I take a refreshing sip.

“Good. Sit back and relax.” Chet pulls two chairs so Jill and he will face each other when they sit. He motions Jill over and after she sits, he takes his seat, leaning forward to squeeze her knee. “Ready?”

Jill nods and looks over to me. “Here’s how this will work. Mel wrote questions on all of these little papers folded in this bowl.” Jill lifts and shakes the bowl slightly. “Chet will draw—”

“Why will I draw the first one?” Chet frowns, but there is no missing the playful gleam in the chocolate brown of his eyes.

Jill shrugs, biting her lip to hide her smile. “Because I have the bowl and it’s my rules.”

“Fair enough,” Chet shrugs and sits back.

“Now as I was saying, Chet will draw a question first and I’ll answer. Then I’ll draw a question and he’ll answer. So let’s get started.” Jill holds the bowl out to Chet. Their gazes connect and I can’t help but smile at the playful way Chet sends her an air kiss and her smile spreads across her face, lighting up her eyes.

Chet reads the paper and he winks when he looks at Jill. “Out of all the kisses that readers witnessed in our story, which one is your favorite?”

A slow blush creeps from the neckline of Jill’s blouse and spreads upward until it disappears into her hairline. “That’s too easy. My favorite is definitely the one that started all the trouble in the first place. You nearly knocked my socks off when you kissed me in the kitchen that first night at the restaurant.”

“You mean I didn’t disintegrate your underwear?” Chet asks with a devilish grin.

Jill leans forward and kisses him solid on the lips. “Sorry, that super power didn’t come until I got the chance to know you better. Now it’s my turn.” She pushes her hand into the bottom of the bowl and pulls out a question. “Ooh, I like this one. Chet, what was the first thing you noticed about me that attracted you.”

“There was a combination. You’re husky, sex-phone operator voice, your beautiful eyes, and the way you dress to suit your own style,” Chet answers, his eyes growing dark as his gaze walks over Jill from head to toe and back again.

“You’re a flirt,” Jill chuckles. “So you like that I dress with a 50’s flair?”

“I like that you dress like a bona fide 50’s bombshell.”

Jill fans her hand in front of her face. “If you don’t stop looking at me like that Chet Castle I’m afraid our audience might get more than they bargained for.”

“I’ll be good. We’ll save the rest of what I have planned for later.”

“I like how you think. Now it’s your turn.”

Chet places his hand over Jill’s as he leisurely takes the bowl from her fingers. Their gazes remain locked. Chet grabs another piece of paper. “If you could change one thing Christine shared in our story, what would you change.”

Jill leans back in her seat and closes her eyes briefly, before sitting forward in her chair. Her features are serious. “I would definitely not have let Gina get to me like she did. My gut told me what she’d said to me wasn’t true, but I let myself get pulled in to her lies when I shouldn’t have.” She mouths the words ‘I’m sorry’ at Chet.

“Hey, at least you discussed it with me before things got out of hand.” Chet squeezes her fingers.

Jill continues to hold Chet’s hand and looks over at me. “How are we doing so far, Christine?”

I took another sip of my tea and swallowed. “Excellent. You’re making my day very relaxed.”

“Good. Okay, last question goes to you, Jill.” Chet passes her the bowl.

Jill quickly pulls out a question. “If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?”

“As long as I’m with you, I’ll live anywhere. No place will be to hot, to cold, to distant, or to lonely as long as you’re by my side.” Chet stands and pulls Jill into his arms. His hand caresses the side of her face and then he lowers his head to crush his mouth to hers.

I’m not sure if you can hear it from where you all are sitting, but she definitely sighed. Oh yeah J.

I almost feel like an intruder—almost—but I have to admit it’s nice to see a couple that has been in my heart and thoughts for such a long time have their happily ever after.

Bachelor’s Special Teaser #1

He tossed the towel on the counter. “I’m attracted to you, and after that zipper-popping kiss, I’m going to assume the feeling’s mutual.”

“That’s neither here nor there. I don’t mess around with someone I work with and definitely not someone I work for.” Jill jumped off the counter and pushed past him. She feared she’d combust from the friction of her heartbeat working against the rush of heated blood in her veins.

“I really don’t fall into either category. We don’t work together, and I’m far from your boss.” His voice held a tinge of humor laced with steel. “This is strictly a business arrangement.”

“That might be worse.”

He moved toward her. “Jill—”

“I’m tired of men assuming because I’m a woman, because of the way I look, that I’m open to a sexual relationship with them to get ahead.”

“What are you talking about? Who said anything about getting ahead?” He brushed his hand through his hair, confusion littering his face.

“Is this the payback you’re expecting? You offer to help me with my catering business, even so far as co-signing for a loan, and all I have to do is lay back, close my eyes, and grit my teeth while you have your way with me?”

A vein hammered along the side of his neck. “I seriously doubt you’ll be gritting your teeth, unless it’s to stop yourself from screaming my name.”

Consquences By Aleatha Roming Blog Tour

Consequences Blog Tour BannerConsequences Cover

Today I have the pleasure of welcoming Aleatha Roming and she brought lot of exciting titbits regarding consequences. I got the dreamcast, playlist ,interview and maybe even a giveaway. –

Besieged by memories of a brutal abduction, Claire Nichols wakes in an unfamiliar bedroom, within a luxurious mansion. Her recollections have one common denominator, the man she just met, Anthony Rawlings.
Unbeknownst to Claire, for a very long time, she has been within Anthony’s sights. Many of the pivotal events in her life occurred, due to his sinister manipulation. Every action has a consequence, and his actions result in their chance meeting.

More than a psychological thriller, Consequences is a vivid story of one woman’s struggle to survive incomprehensible circumstances. Every aspect of her being suddenly depends upon the tall, wealthy, dark haired, dark eyed businessman. Anthony Rawlings is known to the world as prosperous, benevolent, and kind. Claire quickly learns that he can also be a menacing controlling captor.

With few options but concession, Claire attempts to earn her freedom, while enduring a hellish existence that truly appears perfect. Persevering tests and trials, she struggles to retain her pure Midwest values and beliefs. Encouraged by memories of a loving upbringing, she gains strength in the simplest of joys: solitude in nature and good in the face of evil.

His goal in sight, Anthony’s calculated agenda encounters an unforeseen detour. He becomes captivated by Claire’s beauty, resilience, and determination. The interaction of these two compelling characters instigates strong emotions: fear, anger, love, and lust. Claire and Anthony’s tumultuous journey flows into uncharted waters of intrigue and passion.

Utilizing vivid detail, this 167,000-word novel unfolds like a movie, before the eyes of its readers. From the opening criminal abduction, through twists and turns, to the unlikely romantic thrills, the suspense climaxes as Anthony’s motivation becomes evident.

Anthony and Claire must decide if they will stay true to one another, or allow preceding actions to result in justifiable Consequences.

Today we would like to welcome the fantastic Aleatha Romig to the blog!  Thanks so much for being here today!

What inspired you to write Consequences?

I’d always wanted to write a book.  It was a bucket list type thing.  In 2008 my husband lost his job, it was in construction materials and the economy tanked! He began working a third shift job.  Our two oldest children were off in college.  Our youngest was going to bed about 8:30.  That left a lot of alone time.

I had this idea of a woman in a room… I decided to sit down and see where the story would take me.  I didn’t write Consequences to publish.  I wrote Consequences as therapy or escape from my life.  I could totally manipulate and control the lives of these characters.  It was more than I could do for myself.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I think I do.  I think I have a certain flow and sentence structure.  Beyond that, I need to know where I’m going.  For all of my books, I’ve written the beginning and the end.  Then I let the middle fill itself in.  I’ve tried to write without knowing the end, it doesn’t work.  The fun part is letting the characters and story dictate the middle!

What author has influenced you the most?

I belong to the Indiana Romance Writers Association.  In our local chapter there are many talented writers, and I’ve learned and been influenced by these woman in many ways.  Most of them have much more experience than I.  Their willingness to share and encourage has been invaluable.

In a long distance, no direct influence kind of way, I will say E.L. James.  Not because I found Fifty Shades amazing… it was good.  But, she opened the door to “different books” hitting the mainstream.  Consequences Series isn’t erotic; however, it is dark.  I breach subjects that previously were taboo.  I’m not sure that my series would have received the acceptance it has, pre Fifty Shades.

What book are you reading now?

When I’m really into my writing, I don’t read.  However, I asked to read an ARC of Safe Word by Teresa Mummert. So far… fun and HOT!

What current project are you working on?

I’m writing Convicted, the third and final of my Consequences Series. I’m over 2/3’s  through.  Although it isn’t done I do know how it ends.

What was the hardest part of writing Consequences?

The hardest part was deciding how much detail to put in my manuscript. My original draft had more detail.  It was so disturbing to my mother and sister-in-law that they couldn’t read the story.  So, I decided to employ more of the “fade to black” technique.  Honestly, I still have people who think my reading is too disturbing and others who want more detail.  I’ve come to the conclusion; you can’t please everyone – so please yourself.

How did you come up with the storyline for Consequences?

I had the “vision” or “thought” of the opening scene.  I didn’t know any more, but wanted to learn more.  That’s how it started…

Are you getting many invoices for your readers’ therapy for completely messing with their mind? Ha ha ok that was only a joke! But what’s the craziest thing one of your readers has said about Consequences?

lol! No invoices because I don’t give out my address! I’ve been threatened! I think I could get some great “group” rates! There is a wonderful “Consequences Series Group Therapy and Hugs” group on  Goodreads! Once you’ve completed both Consequences and Truth (because there are many spoilers) I suggest you go visit!  There are 3 Tony POV’s on there, too.

I’ve received so many messages and had so many reviews, I can’t possibly zero in on one crazy thing! But, I will say, I’ve started laughing out loud while reading some of my readers’ comments! I’m so thankful my readers share their thoughts with me. It seems as though I evoke a little emotion!

Thank you for having me on your blog!  I’ve enjoyed it! ~Aleatha

Consequences Teaser #1

The fade into consciousness happened slowly like the melting of ice. The water was still present. It just changed form. Claire’s mind couldn’t process the entirety of her circumstance. She knew she was awakening, felt the warmth of soft sheets and a thick comforter against her skin, but it felt wrong. Where was she?

Suddenly, the ice became liquid and her veins filled with the cold, condensing fluid. Her heartbeat intensified as the poor muscle attempted to pump the viscous solution. The sting of her swollen eyelids brought back memories of her arrival to this place. She strained to listen, to hear anything. The only sound that registered was an incessant ringing within her ears. More with curiosity than courage, she cautiously opened her eyes. Peering around the room, she discovered that she was indeed alone. Momentary relief caused her chest to contract and a sigh to escape her lips.

Under other circumstances, she might relish the amazing softness of the silk sheets or the grandeur of the king-sized bed. Today, however, despite the warm cocoon, her body shivered as the fog of her mind cleared. The memories of the last previous night began to surface from the depths of her unconsciousness. Perhaps it had been nightmare. She tried to convince herself the memories weren’t real.

But then, how did she get here? And where was here?

Enormous windows, currently covered by golden drapes, allowed just enough sunlight for her eyes to adjust. For the first time since her arrival, she looked, really looked at her surroundings, seeing the four ornately carved corner posts of the bed. They were exquisite, and looking beyond, so was the room where it sat. The alluring bedroom looked larger and more lavish than any she had ever seen. The room looked like heaven, but she already knew it was hell.
